Cupping

Also known as Myofascial Decompression, cupping is a technique that involves placing suction cups on the skin to create a vacuum effect. It can help release muscle tension, improve blood flow, and reduce pain.

FAQs

Benefits include pain and inflammation reduction, decreased muscle tightness, improved blood flow, and increased range of motion

Cupping creates suction that draws fluid into the treated area, causing tiny blood vessels (capillaries) under the skin to expand and rupture. This stimulates improved blood flow, promoting proper healing at a cellular level in the cupped regions.

Cupping therapy should be painless, though you might feel slight skin tightness during the procedure. Afterward, you may experience mild bruising and soreness, but severe discomfort is not expected.

Cupping leaves temporary marks on the skin. Those with skin sensitivity could have persistent skin discoloration, scars, or burns.

The duration of cupping will vary depending on multiple factors, including the purpose of cupping, the patient's skin sensitivity and patient's tolerance.  Your Physical Therapist will determine the optimal time for you.
