Pelvic Floor Therapy

Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized form of therapy that focuses on the assessment and treatment of the muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues in the pelvic region. It aims to address issues related to pelvic floor dysfunction, such as pelvic pain, incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse, through tailored exercises and manual techniques.

FAQs

We treat patients with pelvic pain (pain in the pelvic joints associated with transitions or increased activity level; pain in the tailbone; lower abdomen, lower back, groin, buttock or hip; pain in the genitals); bladder issues (leakage, urgency, frequency); pelvic organ prolapse (pressure or heaviness down there), postpartum recovery, abdominal separation (diastasis recti), and pain with intercourse.

During the session, the therapist will conduct a comprehensive whole body assessment, which may include internal and external evaluations. Treatment may involve exercises, manual techniques, and lifestyle recommendations.

Absolutely, you have the right to refuse any aspect of your treatment, including an internal examination. Your comfort and consent are of utmost importance. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to discuss them with your PT so we can explore alternative options for your care.

The number of sessions varies depending on individual needs and conditions. Some people experience improvement in a few sessions, while others may require more extensive treatment over time.

The therapy is designed to be comfortable, but some patients may experience mild discomfort during internal assessments or trigger point release. The therapist will work closely with you to ensure your comfort and adjust the treatment accordingly.

We primarily focus on providing pelvic floor physical therapy services for patients designated female at birth. If you have any specific concerns or inquiries, we'd be more than happy to assist and recommend appropriate resources for individuals outside this scope.

“I have seen Dr. Donna for postpartum for urinary incontinence and pain during intercourse. I have noticed improvement in just a few visits of Pelvic Floor Therapy - no pain with intercourse and no more leakage. She also helped my sciatica with dry needling, and exercises. She’s a real good Doctor!”
